Tanzanite: A Gemstone Like No Other
First discovered just over half a century ago at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, tanzanite is one of the most enchanting gemstones in the world today. This semi-precious gemstone is known for its rich colour, natural rarity and spiritual significance. It has quickly secured a place in the world of fine jewellery since its discovery in 1967.
While our focus at Halo Diamonds has always been on natural diamonds, we're equally excited to offer rare coloured gemstones like tanzanite. An exceptionally unique treasure.
ARGUABLY ONE OF THE RAREST GEMSTONES
Unlike most gemstones found across various continents, tanzanite can only be found in a small area near Arusha, Tanzania. This limited supply adds to the mystique and value of this gemstone.
Our love for tanzanite comes from our passion in celebrating uniqueness. Every piece of tanzanite carries with it a singular origin, a geological miracle that may never be seen again in nature.
A COLOUR CHANGING GEM
One of tanzanite's most captivating traits is its colour. It displays a phenomenon called trichroism, meaning it can show three different colours depending on the light and your viewing angle. Generally, this will be a mix of deep blue, violet, and subtle flashes of red or burgundy.
When sourcing a tanzanite, I often choose tanzanites for their rich saturation of colour and, whenever possible, I will choose an unheated tanzanite.
CARING FOR TANZANITE
Tanzanite is softer than sapphires, rating between 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale for hardness. With special care, your tanzanite can last beautifully for generations:
- Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners
- Clean your tanzanite gently with lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush (a soft bristle toothbrush is perfect)
- Do not wear your rings to the gym, whilst gardening and/or doing other physically strenuous activities
- Store your tanzanite jewellery in the provided jewellery box
FINAL THOUGHTS
Tanzanite is a gemstone that is full of beauty, rarity and uniqueness. Most heated tanzanite comes in a rich bluish/violetish colour. Unheated ones come in a variety of colours including pink (arguably one of the rarest colour in tanzanite), green, taupe and brown.
Like natural diamonds, each natural tanzanite is unique. At Halo Diamonds we believe each natural precious and semi precious gemstones are true miracles of nature.
